The greatest golfer of all time is celebrating his 72nd birthday..

Happy 72nd Birthday to the greatest golfer of all time: Jack Nicklaus

There are certain things you can debate in golf — like which driver or ball is the best. But if there’s one thing in this beautiful game that can’t be disputed, it’s that Jack Nicklaus is the greatest golfer of all time.

Nicklaus, who turned 72 on Saturday, has the most decorated golf resume in the history of the game, winning 18 major championships in his storied career. He also finished in second-place 19 times — a staggering figure that makes you realize how often he was in contention on golf’s biggest stage.

Aside from the major championship resume, Nicklaus also managed to win 73 events in a PGA Tour career that had more comebacks and clutch putts than most of us can remember.

And don’t forget about the competition Nicklaus faced, going toe-to-toe with the likes of Arnold Palmer, Tom Watson, and Lee Trevino and, more times than not, coming out on top.

It’s hard to say if Nicklaus will remain the greatest of all time forever, but considering how stout the competition is these days, you have to wonder if anyone — besides Tiger Woods — will ever come close to matching his incredible career.

So Happy Birthday, Jack! Here’s hoping you had the chance to go out and shoot your age today. Even at 72, I’m guessing that goal remains well within reach every time you tee it up.
